She Turns Three This Year

These are not her birthday photos as they were taken two months ago. There are no balloons nor party hats either. Her cake is made up of put-together blocks. When I built it earlier this afternoon, she said, "Hey, present!" Up to now, she plays with it. I have been singing Happy Birthday to her and she occasionally sings with me. She has no idea it is her day today.

As a mother, I love that simple child innocence - one thing that fades day by day! But I equally love their wit and intelligence. It amazes me how she's able to put together phrases and sentences. I wonder if she's going to be a linguist since she watches Calliou and High Five in five (or more) different languages via YouTube each and everyday. Her accent, I don't know which one she'll acquire - Mexican, Australian, Californian, hmm... I wonder... :)

...THAT GAZE...

That gaze, my Sophia, that gaze...
It is childhood wonder;
Your simple innocence,
It fades everyday.
I watch you as you grow
And learn how you learn;
To acquire full knowledge
Of what is right and what is wrong;
But until then, my Sophia,
The mother in me wonders...
